Doernbecher_Freestyle :

I was asked by Nike earlier this year to participate in the 2014 Doernbecher Freestyle - a remarkable partnership between Doernbecher Children's Hospital at Oregon Health & Science University and Nike that gives young patients the chance to create limited-edition footwear and apparel.  The money generated from the sale of the Doernbecher Freestyle collection benefits the hospital - so far, nearly $8 million has been raised.  This year the theme was the question, 'What Defines a Good Day?' and each of the 6 participants answered in their own unique way.  They took their experiences, challenges, passions and dreams and used them to create a collection of Nike product that is truly unique.  The pieces are more than just the materials they are made from - they are the journeys and stories that defines each very tough, brave, amazing kid.  My role in the program was capture the moments where the children viewd the pieces that they each helped design, in collaboration with the team at Nike, for the first time.  It was an awesome day and I appreciated the opportunity to meet and spend an hour with them each.  I can't begin to imagine with they and their families have been through, but each brought a smile and spark to the experience.

Up_For_Whatever_with_Bud_Light :

I think that we shot ~28 versions of this scene over two days - one for most every pro team and then a few extra for the NFL.  I like to think that my work has a lot of emotion in it - but this job took the cake.  Initially we thought about running a hightlight video for talent to respond to, but once we looked at the schedule and saw how much we had to accomplish in a given period of time we determined that it would take just too much time to cue the video clips and make sure that they all reacted in sync.  It became clear that I was going to need to call the action "TV comentator style" of a ficticious game being played, again, and again, and again.  Given that we probably did 6-7 takes for each of the 28 versions of this - I ended up yelling out about 196 plays over a crowded bar in two days.  "The quaterback drops back, he looks left, then right.  Out of the corner of his eye he spies a receiver opening up long and launches the bail in a Hail-Mary-final-attempt and saving the season.  It's up, up, up and down, in the end zone, TOUCH DOWN, TOUCH DOWN, TOUCH DOWN.  BUFFALO!  TOUCH DOWN!  I'm exhausted just thinking about it, but the work turned out wonderfully in the end and was worth all of the effort.  All of that said, I couldn't have done it without an amazing, hustiling, anticipating crew of great peeps AND 12 talent who killed it each and every time.  Thank you to ALL of you and also to the Cannonball agency and Bud Light for the opportunity to work on this super fun project.  More up in the Tears section of my site.
