Reel X
About X
As a young boy, Ty was fascinated with stories. In a corner of his bedroom he created miniature scenes with pillows, plastic building blocks and bed sheets in which to enact the tales of his imagination with toy action figures. On long drives with his family through the desert Southwest he would stare out at the puffy white clouds and drift away to grand adventures in far away places. The themes to many of these make believe sagas took shape in weekly grammar school writing assignments, but story boarding and scripting his tales alone proved unsatisfactory and incomplete. Before long he had commandeered the family’s Super 8 camera and began developing skills directing talent, which mainly consisted of his younger brother and pet Dalmatian. Neither were especially reliable characters for his productions and so being frustrated with their lack of professionalism, he secretly packed a satchel of day-old-muffins, a sleeping bag and his favorite red boots and absconded with the Super 8 inside the belly of a giant steel zeppelin – bound for where he knew not. As it rose up into the sky one winter day he looked down and saw his family playing below and realized that he would miss the simple, everyday stories that he had always told. Without a second thought he leapt from the zeppelin, which was already high above the clouds and used his sleeping bag as a makeshift parachute that drifted him back to earth, where he landed softly atop a giant pile of freshly fallen snow.

About X
In my work and life I strive to see the brighter side of
things – humor, laughter, the warm rays of the sun, deep blue sky – beauty all
around. It is my passion to show the
world as the inviting place that it is – children catching fireflies, couples
embracing and friends laughing as the sun sets over the horizon at the end of
the day. Black is not a part of my color
pallet and a rainstorm is something that you use as an excuse to steal a kiss
under an umbrella.
Over the years I have built a body of lifestyle work that
shows my love of playfulness, spontaneity, warmth and color. I strive to capture real feeling moments filled
with motion and emotion. I have been
fortunate to develop a base of fantastic clients who hire me because of my ability
to put my subjects at ease and come up with fun, fresh, emotive, whimsical
images - whether as stills or motion capture.
I live in the vibrant city of Portland, Oregon with my wife
Kelly and daughter Malia.
